The padded straps actually make a difference on longer walks — my 5-year-old rode comfortably for a solid hour at the zoo without me feeling it in my shoulders. The camel-and-white grid pattern is subtle enough that my husband doesn't mind wearing it either.
My 4-year-old asks to go up on my back now, and the lightly padded straps don't dig into my shoulders even after a 40-minute walk to the park. The camel-and-white grid pattern has held up fine through a few muddy afternoons, too.
